Previously, we explored the meaning of Wellness. Today, we begin to explore the meaning of REGGAE WELLNESS. Reggae Wellness is a movement that once activated, has the potential to NEVER END. How can REGGAE WELLNESS be activated? One person at a time, one family at a time, one neighborhood at a time, one community at a time, one nation at a a time, then the entire planet can achieve REGGAE WELLNESS.

3. Financial Freedom

This is probably the most difficult for us to achieve as a Nation of Blackness, a Nation of Human Beings, One Nation of Indigenous Peoples, because these skills and practices were ripped from our bloodline during the period of enslavement. When families were torn apart, all the wealth and wisdom that had been passed down for generations was taken away from us. Our knowledge, our wealth, our abundance, our relationship with Nature, our culture, our oral traditions, our values, our ways of living, OUR WAYS OF BEING, were all taken away. Our spirits and souls were trapped inside of an oppressive society, where even today, IT IS DANGEROUS TO BE BLACK. Our very Blackness is a desired commodity: the thieves want our Blackness, yet they want US dead.

THERE IS A GIFT IN EVERY ADVERSITY, even if we do not see it right away, it is there, and IT IS FILLED WITH ABUNDANCE, WAITING FOR US TO CLAIM IT.

Everything happens for a reason, and now it is our time to take back what was wrongfully taken. Including the GOLD they stole: wealth and wisdom, our culture.

Every habit, tendency, impulse, or desire that does not lead our nation back to freedom, must be abandoned. ESPECIALLY OUR PURCHASES AND BUYING DECISIONS. Many people are not ready to do this unfortunately, but this is what it will take to achieve Reggae Wellness.

In fact, we would have to return to the ORIGINAL concept of CURRENCY: the currency is running through OUR veins right now! Our blood, our life force energy, this is our TRUE WEALTH! Our RICH heritage and legacy! THAT is the real power. In fact, WALL STREET in USA? That was where the slaves were being sold after they landed on stolen land. The white people did not like seeing this, so they built a wall around the STOCK YARD!!! WE WERE THE STOCK!!! WE were being kept in STOCKADES. THE ORIGINAL STOCK MARKET!!! They even had money printed with our images for slave trade!!! Making it look like

We have been through so much as a people, as a nation, as a tribe. As a family. Some of us were brought to this country against our will. Some of us have been forced to leave our homelands and to live in a faraway place. We were given the choice to assimilate or be killed. Forced to worship the gods of our oppressors. Forced to adopt the lifestyle of captors. Single mothers have been forced to be both mother and father, and have lost touch with their Divine Feminine.

We have lost our ancestral ways. We have lost our connection to the Cosmos. We have lost our connection to our inner selves. and inner knowing. We have lost our connection to the Divine.

As trauma survivors, we have learned how to get by without expressing our Truth, without making time or space for true healing to begin.

The time has come for us to arise and awaken to the Divine that is within us. We must eliminate the ignorance of Self, which now runs rampant through our communities. It is time to build a new health care system and educational system that is holistic, natural, organic, ancient, and contemporary. One that can address our unique needs as a people. We must learn to love ourselves and to value our lives if we expect others to….

Back when I was a young innocent, and ignorant young woman, college student at Oberlin, I had the opportunity to see the live performance of this Play. Now you can see the play in its entirety on youtube!

is just beginning to rouse itself from

the sleepy lassitude of night.

Winner of the coveted Vernon Rice and Obie Awards. Coupled with HAPPY ENDING in its successful Off-Broadway production, this clever and enormously amusing satire is described by the author as “A Reverse Minstrel Show. “Here the all-black cast, made up in white face, recount the uproarious emergencies which occur when a Southern town is faced with the sudden and inexplicable disappearance of all its black citizens. “Laughter can be as effective as anger in telling white America what [Douglas Turner Ward] has on his mind.” —NY Times. “…a gust of fresh air among racial plays.” —Life Magazine.

THE STORY: DAY OF ABSENCE. A satire about an imaginary Southern town where all the black people have suddenly disappeared The only ones left are sick and lying in hospital beds, refusing to get well. Infants are crying because they are being tended to by strange parents. The Mayor pleads for the President, Governor, and the NAACP to send him “a jackpot of jigaboos.” On a nationwide radio network he calls on the blacks, wherever they are, to come back. He shows them the cloths with which they wash cars and the brushes with which they shine shoes as sentimental reminders of the goodies that await them. In the end the blacks begin to reappear, as mysteriously as they had vanished, and the white community, sobered by what has transpired, breathes a sigh of relief at the return of the rather uneasy status quo. What will happen next is left unsaid, but the suggestion is strong that things will never quite be the same again.

I want to suggest that we do the same thing with our dollars. When I was at Oberlin College, they were going to discontinue the Black Studies Program. I had the idea that if we jammed the computer system at the Library, they will reverse this action. So, we sent students to all of the library branches, and were each instructed to check out 20 books, then immediately return them . We crashed the system! Later that evening, we held a candlelight vigil around the President’s Home. The next day, someone had made an anonymous donation to keep the position open.

It worked once, it can work again!

The Last Poets are heralded as the true godfathers of hip hop alongside Gil Scott-Heron. Their brand of politically charged poetry has inspired some of the biggest names in music including Marvin Gaye, Funkadelic, Curtis Mayfield and Quincy Jones, all the way through to hip hop giants such as Dead Prez, Common, Public Enemy and Kanye West. The three core members of The Last Poets – David Nelson, Gylan Kain and Abiodun Oyewole – came together in 1968. Several members rotated over the years, including founding member Felipe Luciano, Jalal Mansur Nuriddin, Umar Bin Hassan, Suliaman El-Hadi, and percussionist Nilaja Obabi. The group recorded groundbreaking albums such as The Last Poets in 1970, This Is Madness in 1971, and Chastisment in 1972. The latter fully introduced The Last Poets’ mix of jazz and poetry, doing away with the minimalist percussion of earlier albums.

The Last Poets enjoyed a huge resurgence in popularity from the early 1990s onwards, appearing alongside the Beastie Boys and A Tribe Called Quest on the 1994 Lollapolooza tour and collaborated with Common on the Kanye West produced track The Corner which was nominated at the Grammy Awards in 2006 for Best Rap Performance. The huge impact made by The Last Poets’ words and music is still strongly felt until today.

The Last Poets……

The Last Poets is the name for several groups of poets and musicians who arose to black nationalist movement. The name is taken from a poem by the South African revolutionary poet Keorapetse Kgositsile, who believed he was in the last era of poetry before guns would take over. The original users of that name were the trio of Felipe Luciano, Gylan Kain, and David Nelson.

I actually had to overcome many obstacles in order to get there. I had to leave the pyramid at home, as I would be on public transportation most of the way. Nevertheless, my dear Sistah Friend Sabryyah, also the organizer of the event. was able to scoop me up from the bus depot in Petaluma! I felt that it was very important for me to be there.

1) My dad was a big fan of the Last Poets. I vividly recall seeing the album, always at the top of the stack. I still have my dad’s original album!

2) After listening to the interview on REBEL BLUES RADIO with Sistah Friend the night before on KWTF.NET, I KNEW that I had to be there, to give Umar a treatment. He described his injury, and I felt that I could offer relief

When I arrived, the workshop was almost over. I tried to be invisible, however, Abiodun spotted me. I did not know the assignment. I was confused, and thought it was the actual poetry reading, so, I recited a few lines from my poem.

Ah, my poem. I had had weeks to prepare something special. #BlackLIvesMatter, Rape, the Environment, so many topics to illuminate. And yet, on the way to the event, while sitting on the bus, it came to me to write a poem that consisted of lines from my favorite original songs!

I was terrified! I recited a few lines, then panicked and froze. LOL!! Everyone clapped. I said thank you. It was fun! Later I learned however, that the poetry reading was not for several hours. This meant, I would get a second chance!

I went to my table, and began offering free demonstrations and cds for purchase. I met so many wonderful people! There was even a woman that knew me from social media and she was already on my email list. There were several folks that recognized me, and this was so encouraging! Even the guy at the gas station on the ride home recognized me! LOL!! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT WAS THERE!

Next was the actual poetry reading. As it turns out, all the topics that I had considered were all covered. I just went up there and did my thing. I forgot to take off my pinhole glasses, so I looked extra cool. I am waiting for the video clips, and will share as soon as they are available. In the meantime, here is the Poem that I recited.

I’ve got to Be My OWN Institution
Institutions from the Days of Yore Have failed Me.
Oh What a Tragedy it is, I still look outside myself
to find Someone who really loves me for ALL I AM.
When I KNOW the Search for the One I Love Begins Within.

Instead, I Look to The One, The One Behind This Feeling

Because, there is a Fountain of Love, Flowing Inside of me

Still this fucked up system, has never worked for us, never been about us, never benefited us.

When I look all around me, I can see, that we all live in conditions, that we have been conditioned to living in a police state. living in a military state.

I must remember that we are the Children of Ra, the Children of Creation. Ra is the Source of Life, and we are His Children. No matter how people look, no matter where they come from. we are children of Ra and are loved equally. We must love one another equally, cuz we’re all family. We’re all Children of Ra, Children of Creation.

There is a science of love, science of love, real love, true love, science of love. to know love, you must first love yourself. to know love, you must first love yourself. before you can love another you must first know yourself. before you can love another, you must first love yourself.

November 30, 2001, is the date my father, Edward Milton Hambric, Sr made his transition.

This will also signify an opening into Our Divine Inheritance and Our Natural State of Abundant Prosperity, if we are wise with Our Resources that is. For instance, joining in the efforts to boycott Black Friday and all Oppressive Holiday Shopping. Putting limits on our spending and setting boundaries around our eating habits, “sacrificing the pleasure” of the so called American Holidays, which really celebrate the slaughter of OUR way of life, to this very day!

This is a time to Honor our Ancestors by taking bold actions to establish our mental and financial freedoms. Making efforts to connect with our Ancestors, honoring them by not partaking in the celebration of their and our own destruction. Establishing healthy Traditions and Boundaries for our culture so that we can pass on the wisdom of the Ancients to the Youth of Today and Future generations.

In Recognition of Afro-Ecuadorian Heritage Day

Note: This information was released by the Afro-Ecuadorian Cultural Center, posted on Facebook by an Afro-Ecuadorian friend May Perlaza, of which I translated into English.

Alonso de Illescas (1528-1585)In 1997, the National Congress of Ecuador declared October 2, the national day of Black Ecuadorians giving formal recognition to Alonso de Illescas (pronounced O-lone-zo Day EE-yes-cahs) a native of Senegal, West Africa. He was brought to Ecuador on a slave ship around the age of 25 and grew up to be a strategist skilled in guerrilla warfare. Behind a fortress built by by an alliance of escaped African slaves and Indigenous people, Illescas and his men fought and turned back many expeditions of Spanish forces.

Afro-Ecuadorians remember Alonso de Illescas, the national hero. Alonso was also a diplomat, who on one hand, fought against the Spaniards, and on the other hand, knew how to make friends. He assisted other Blacks who were on shipwrecked slaves ships and nursed them back to health, then recruited them into his revolutionary force against Spanish troops.

Esmeraldas is on the Northwestern coast of Ecuador, a six-hour drive from Quito, the nations capital.

He was also a true governor of what is now Ecuador’s province of Esmeraldas; never subject to bribes, and even rejected the title of governor when many politicians gave up their properties to take on the title of governor of Esmeraldas. Olonso IIlescas trained new leaders starting with his son Alonso Sebastian de Illescas and his grandson Jerónimo (Geronimo) so that they be loving of justice and liberty and keep their territory free of Spanish rule. Although, Esmeraldas was the first province invaded by the Spanish, it was the alliance between Blacks and Indigenous people that kept the Spanish from taking full control.

COMMENTARY: We have heard of Haiti, the Garifuna of Belize, the Quilombos of Brasil, the Maroons of Jamaica, the Seminole of the Southeastern Turtle Island, the Moors. And now, the People of Esmeraldas. There are still pockets of freedom still in existence where ever slavery left its deathly impression. Sure, here in the US, Black People have created many forms of music and dance, however, we always go for the commercial, and lose control over the movement. We let go of TRUE culture and spirituality. The majority of the artists in the USA have FULLY embraced their enslavement, and some even work for the Satanic Forces. We are wrong to assume that financial success IS success. It is only a piece of true success. The People of Esmeraldas have created a space in my heart, because they have held onto their culture. Perhaps due to racism, or isolation due to geographical location, they did not go through integration as we did here in the US. Really excited about this song because I just decided I was ready to write a song, and the song was conceived, birthed and shared in one day. It took me a minute to get this page to you, but the track did make it to soundcloud on the same day….I had the page ready last night, and when I hit save, it disappeared….

This tune started out as a message to the Youth of Today,
then it became a message to My Self.

“Hey, I want to get a message to you today.
Even though you may think we’ve come along way.
I want you to see that from where I stand
We are all going along with their deceptive plan
to eliminate us, and to replicate us
when they vaccinate, educate and medicate us.

Hey, I want to get this message to those with ears to hear,
There is nothing to fear, the time to take action is near.
This is not the time or place to lay your weary head
I hope that you remember the words that I’ve said
When the time comes a knocking at your door
Then you will know what you are really here for…”

I AGREE WITH MARCUS GARVEY, IF WE THINK THAT HIGHER EDUCATION IS THE SOLUTION TO THE RACE PROBLEM, WE WILL WALK BETWEEN NOW AND ETERNITY AND NEVER SEE THE PROBLEM SOLVED. THE ACTION THAT WE NEED TO TAKE DOES NOT INVOLVE MARCHES, WALKS, PROTESTS, RIOTS, ETC. THESE ARE JUST SYMPTOMS OF THE GREATER ISSUES. I BELIEVE THAT WE ALL MUST MAKE CHANGES IN OUR PERSONAL LIVES IF WE WANT TO SEE THE WORLD CHANGE. WE ARE WAITING TO SEE THE REVOLUTION ON THE NEWS OR SOCIAL MEDIA. WE ARE MAKING HISTORY IN THIS MOMENT, AND YET, WE ARE LETTING IT JUST PASS US BY, WHILE WE PAY FOR THEIR VERSION OF WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE WORLD. THE NEWS IS A DISTRACTION, AND SOON, WE MUST BE READY TO TAKE ACTION: RESIST BABYLON! RESISTANCE IS WHAT IS BEING CALLED FOR. SELF SUSTAINABILITY IS WHAT IS NEEDED. SELF RELIANCE AND SELF CONTROL. NOT SAGGIN PANTS AND HAIR WEAVES.

AS LKJ SAYS, “WE’RE MAKING HISTORY!”
UNFORTUNATELY, MANY PEOPLE ARE BRAINWASHED AND THEY ARE JUST WATCHING OTHER FOLKS’ REALITY SHOWS…..

Commentary part 2:
Each time we make progress as a people, as a Nation, even a step forward for Humanity, we are met with a distraction, the next big war, the latest drug, illness, scandal, disease, etc. even new fashion or music styles have kept us asleep. For instance, after the 60’s and the Civil Rights Movement, we got the 70’s free love, sex, drugs, partAAAAAY! We went from our leaders and role models of freedom fighters like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X to George Clinton, BOOTSY COLLINS and the Funkadelics? Don’t get me wring, I loves me some funk, AT THE RIGHT TIME! But Think about it: Who is still being supported by the system and still thriving? GEORGE CLINTON! Is he related to Bill and Hilary????

Then when we had Reggae, they also hit our neighborhoods with Crack, and we ended up with the Children of Bob Marley making commercials for Maybelline cosmetics! Nowadays, we get to see young men with dreadlocks, and they are SAGGIN!!! ISN’T THAT BIZARRE, One symbol of consciousness juxtaposed with one symbol of ignorance. Talk about Dichotomy…
